mumblings and grumblings. ie more bitching

finished letting gaia walk me for a good half hour after the u.s. "match" today. here are my thoughts on the debacle that was.

1) why the fuck do we have to play the best team in in the eastern block when we finished first in our group? yet mexico gets to play the greatest team to never win anything (portugal), a team that half the world couldnt find on a labeled map (angola),
and the country the u.s. has hand picked to win win a republican the seat in the white house next election (iran).

2) why do we have to play the oldest team in our group first? when playing the czechs second or third, the u.s. would have an advantage in fitness level. next up is italy, a team who plays with 14 men on the field, including the refs. third is ghana, young, quick, strong. a horrendous third opponent. well played fifa.

3) on to the team...
a- hows about moving bobby convey away from eddie lewis. move johhny o'brien away from claudio reyna. move demarcus beasley away from landon donovan. as these players all play the exact same game as their counterpart.

b- how about moving eddie pope off the fuckin field, hes old. hes tired. and its only gonna get worse.

c- where the hell was clint dempsey today? get demarcus out of the game, if i wanted to see a guy too scared to go one on one, id watch landon donovan the entire game. dempsey has balls, let him show his skills, producing energy and confidence on the right hand side. not going well???? then bring in convey and his frenetic kinetic movement.

d- eddie johnson needs to start. period. only guy to do anything today!

e- meet the damned ball halfway! it looked like a youth game out there. waiting for someone to do something, waiting waiting waiting.

all in all this is somewhat what i expected. the great euro disappearing act performed by the big three, donovan, beasley, mc'bride.
we need to utilize our speed and alleged fitness. if these guys dont want to play hard, get them out, play the second string, but no matter what, please dont make this a repeat of '98. one goal scored. one more step backwards for the u.s.
