you were once the largest constellation in the southern hemisphere
a docking station for the enterprise
massively burning bright
a beacon for the traveller and wayward

now your once concentrated flames burn nebulous
aimlessly sputtering noxious toxins through the vastness of space
your gravity no longer strong enough
to attract or anchor a locus

and i look up to you as i have since your discovery
and i wonder how such a bright star can extinguish
so rapidly
so quietly

as arbitrary as your order...so was your demise
i still look for you on occasion
quickly realizing
youre languishing in the southern sky
