i tried today to be more like you
sitting in silence
sipping in solace
the headphones drowning out the communal murmers
of the artistic and the mundane
i listened intently to everything
and to nothing at all

the posterboards were littered
with the dreams of the utopians
desperately seeking someone
anyone
who could share similar interests
or purchase no longer necessary refuse

so i sat there
paying the monthly burdens
to those benevolent industries
of cable gas and electric
smiling and graciously nodding
to those that entered...
the coffee house ilk

all the while contemplating
three dollars is too much to spend
on atmosphere
flirtatious ass
and a liquid diarrhetic
