1979 saratoga new york. my first live concert. the doobie brothers played. it was not my choice to go, im certain of that. i stood next to my father on the grassy slope that defines the SPAC lawn, watching the crowd throw marshmallows, and couldnt wait til i was old enough to throw my own. a sweet stench hung heavy in the air,and i asked my father what smelled like the bassment. i believe his response was,"cigarettes." he lied. besides being remarkably hungry for junk food, there is nothing else i remember from that experience, as i passed out under my mothers protective wing...most likely from all the "cigarette" smoke.
i miss those moments. i miss that venue, and that lawn. mostly and most importantly, i miss my father.
