unhinged jaws lie in the middle of the street
as that rottweiler screams in pain.
howling from being first
kicked by its master
then subsequently
slammed into by the cadillac.
the cadillac whose owner never saw
the dog fight in the lot where
he had just parked
to buy couscous from
the market on the corner.

no one notices the yorkie
still bleeding from the rottweilers attacks.
no one notices the yorkies owner
who can barely breathe.
using all the power within her
to keep from screaming
like that big dog
who is now being placed into a police vehicle
and rushed to the hospital.

(the victim is rarely ever noticed
or so ive noticed.)

the yorkie bleeds from the throat
as the rotty hails a ride
from the towns finest.
the forecast calls for 4 inches of snow.
