marriages of convenience
this blessed union means not a damned thing anymore.
that is what happened to our society
when the chips fell and shit was blowing through the fan,
as the lakes dried out and the air got hot,
the populace turned to frivolous bliss-
to save themselves.
but what of the rest of us
the semi cyberpunk, the techno-sexuals, the television gawkers,
the half-ass writers, the normals and the queers.
the ones who still believe
that hopping a fence to Rome
wont change anything,
wont save your blackened soul.
but the love of a good woman,
the thought of that white picket fence
drives us to our mediocrity...
propels us through our days
and our nights spent
with someone elses
someone else.
chasing that ring in our sleep,
that fried slice of gold,
that ever present knowledge
that life is more than just a contract,
its more than the worth of real estate
on which we currently reside.
