MIDNITE NAVIGATIONS

relationships are crashing against the harbor rocks
and friends are sent careening into the bay
its difficult to watch from my vantage point
up in that hilltop tower
the masts that once flew their flags so proudly
now crack from the pressures of unbearable weight
splintering the social dynamic that used to bond them true
as those ships sink into the murky memories
of their undoing
i can only toss life preservers and give words of encouragement
that go unheard from that tower
over the sounds of the screaming and inconsolable wails
